Honey...my hair

Honey...my hair

As you already know, honey is an incredible ingredient for your health and also a good sweetener. Did you know that it is also good for your hair? Yes, you read that right! Sometimes the best ingredient can be found in your kitchen’s cabinet.

Honey is rich in both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is good for hydrating, strengthening, and softening the hair. It contains great vitamins and minerals that contribute to the health of your hair.

You need to know that honey acts as an emollient and humectants for the hair.

You might be asking yourself; girl what is an emollient or humectant?

Well, it simply means that honey has the capacity to pull our water molecules from the air and draw them into your hair and scalp. It’s like a magnet for moisture.

Now, let me name a few good benefits of honey if you are still skeptical:

1.Honey promotes hair growth

Because of its ability to promote cell growth, honey is used as a treatment for wound healing and to prevent infection. The skin epithelial cells promoted by honey are essential for healthy hair growth.

Honey can even awaken dormant hair follicles to promote new hair growth.

2.Shine, Detangle and Condition your hair

Honey is a natural softener and detangler, making it a super powerful ingredient in your hair care regimen. Honey keeps your hair from drying out and also does a great job of helping your strands retain moisture.

As a humectant and also because of its high sugar content, honey helps to maintain strong follicles. It's also rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Incorporating it into your routine will make your hair shinier, softer, and well conditioned.

3.Reduce hair loss and breakage

Honey helps retain moisture by sealing your hair cuticles, allowing it to be more resistant to breakage and grow longer and stronger.

4.Promote scalp health

Honey has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It contains natural enzymes and nutrients that nourish and support scalp health. Honey also contains antioxidant properties that protect the scalp from free radical damage and infections.

Honey also improves the health of your scalp, reduces hair loss, and promotes new hair growth. All these properties found in honey also help fight and prevent dandruff and itchiness on the scalp.

5.Strengthen the hair

When your hair is weakened due to chemical treatment or mistreatment, it is more likely to break and fall out. In addition to the many vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants present in honey, it also contains a small amount of keratin protein. Keratin has been shown to repair and strengthen weak and brittle hair.

How to use honey in your hair regimen

In your hair mask or deep conditioner, add 1-2 spoons of honey into your favorite hair mask or conditioner. Apply it to washed hair and let it sit for 20-30 min and rinse thoroughly.

Or if you are a DIY person, here a hair mask you can do:

1 avocado

1 banana

1-2 cup of honey

1/4 cup of olive oil

1/4 coconut milk or aloe vera juice (optional)

Blend it well. Apply to your hair for 30 min and rinse it out.

Also can be used with your favorite oil as a prepoo (pre-shampoo). Add your favorite oil into a bowl and take 1-2 spoons of honey, mix it well and apply it to your hair and let it sit for 15 min and follow with your shampoo.

Honey works for all hair types and it's also a great solution for low porosity hair types.
